I Cobble Sometimes

I got some used shoes that I liked the styling of, but were in less than ideal condition. The heals and parts of the soles were very worn and basically needed to be replaced. Since the motto of my life seems to be, "If you want something done right (or for little money) you have to do it yourself," I bought some stuff and got to it.

In these first pictures you can see how worn the leather bits of the heel are. I've already used the claw on a hammer to pry them up and remove the nails. 

Some Great Thift Finds

Here are three pocket squares that I got for a great price! Two are silk and the grey one is a soft cotton (sold). I've been trying to get some new color in my closet since I mostly have shades of blue and red (which are great), so there's a lot of variety I'm missing. The red piece is a silk scarf with a pull (lower right) and a stain which I plan to turn into bow ties and pocket squares. I don't need the blue one and wouldn't miss the grey too much, so they are both up for grabs. $3 for the grey, $8 for the blue silk.

 I also picked up this navy tie.

 It has a really nice texture and some gold stripes.

 Finally, I got some 7.5D  RL Polo Bench Made spectators (two-toned shoes). I'm not sure how much these retail for, but it was probably around $200 or more. The soles have hardly any wear, so I'm hoping to got a decent bit of money for them on eBay or elsewhere. Anyone need them?

My Favorite Shoes

I can't believe I haven't posted these yet. These are my thrift store bragging rights, my favorite pair of shoes, and the best deal I've ever gotten!

They are listed here (fourth from bottom) at €399. I got them for $2.

New Thrift Finds

I found these Sperry Makos in size 10M. They are in really good shape, and look as if they have hardly been worn. There is plenty of wear left in the soles, as you can see. They'll probably go up on eBay.





This Orvis jacket was also a steal. It's a little round in the midsection for me, but I am contemplating taking a whack at altering that. I have a few jackets that I want some more waist suppression in, but haven't gotten around to messing with. There are some nice details like leather buttons and elbow pads.

It is also a real sports jacket--removable button tab to keep you warm when fowling in foul weather and biswing (I think that's the right term) pleats on the back allow for free arm movement without pulling too much on the back.


I also got some ties for 50 cents. The one on the left is cotton madras, of about medium width (just what I like) and the right is thinner knit tie.

Tan Alden Derby/Blucher SOLD

I picked these up from the thrift store. They are a size 9D. They'll be headed to eBay as soon as I feel like posting them. Until then, anyone want 'em?

Shoe Finds

I'd been looking for a pair of boat shoes in dark brown, and saw these at my local thrift store:

Sperry Topsiders in great shape for $2 isn't a bad deal.

Also, some Johnston and Murphy dress shoes in a size 9 1/2 D that I will give to my dad or flip on eBay:
